We have all thought about it at some point in our lives.
Maybe when you feel like you can’t go on, when you feel like there is no
turning back, and you think “I should have done this differently, then maybe I wouldn't
be here.” These thoughts are not uncommon and we all have them. But have you
ever stopped to think what would have happened if you did do something
differently, what would the ultimate consequence be?
So many times I have sat and thought about what I would
change if I could, there seem so many, but then I think about what my life
would be like if I did make those changes. Would I have my son? Probably not.
Worse is I think “If I had made that decision, would I be alive today?”
Yes I get that sometimes life can be hard, but changing even
just the smallest thing, could have changed the whole spectrum of life. It
could have made life better, right? Maybe not. Maybe you got totally wasted the
night you met your spouse but had you decided to not go out that night, would
you had met them? We might seem insignificant in this world of 7 billion
people, but the decision that we make always has a chain reaction.
I think what I’m trying to get at here is that we have to
accept the choices we make in life. Whatever that choice was, it was what you
needed at that exact moment. Maybe it wasn't the right decision, and you got
hurt, but you learnt a valuable lesson from it. I thought my ex was the one,
but falling pregnant unexpectedly, proved he wasn't. Yes he was a coward to
leave me like that, but he was exactly what I needed, at that point in my life.
No more would have’s, should have’s and could have’s.
We need to embrace where we are in our lives right now. If
you aren't happy with where you are, make changes but stop sitting around
wishing you had changed something in the past. As the famous quote says: The past
is history, the future is a mystery and today is a gift – that’s why they call
it the present.
Let’s live in the moment. Let’s rejoice in the small things
in life because they will become the big things. Let’s stop loving things and
rather start loving people.
Have you ever wanted to change anything in your life?
